So many of the early Willmer pipes had terrific straight grain that this modestly grained piece can look inconsequential, but don’t overlook it. The Willmer wood was almost certainly from the old Charatan stock, so the smoking properties are going to be just as good as any AAA Willmer Straight Grain. This one might be even better as it comes from the outer part of the burl and thus has a plateau rim. The condition of the pipe is excellent, with a crisp, clean rim and a mark-free ebonite stem. The draw is open. Grp. 6.
