Charatan Special #817-5343 *SOLD 11/9/23*

$75.00

I know who made this pipe. I don’t know his name, but I’ve seen enough Charatans over 45 years to recognize that it had to have been one carver who did designs such as this one. Almost always, they were straight grain pieces, such as Executives. This didn’t quite have the quality of grain to make it to that level, but the carving more than equals what was done for the straight grain versions. It probably qualifies as a Grp. 6 in size, or a large 5…not huge like some Charatans, but big enough to give you that hour-plus worth of puffing. The condition is very good. The rim is clean and shows the slightest hint of wear. There is one small tooth indentation on both the top and bottom of the stem. The worst part is the nearly buffed off “CP” on the side of the stem. You can see it, but it’s pretty faint. The draw is open. Used.
5.65” long, bowl 2.2” tall. Weight: 1 3/8 oz., 38 grams.
