Call it a large Grp. 6, or maybe a Grp. 7 sized pipe by the now deceased master. While the overall condition is good, with just a little wear on the inner rim, and no marks on the stem, an examination of the shank reveals what appears to be a small fracture, and hence the band. This, of course, reduces the market value of the pipe but does not impact the quality of the smoke. The draw, too, is open. Used.
