Malta Pipe #62924-8260

$45.00

Going by what the top of the box says, this pipe is made of the “Finest Matured Mediterranean Briar.” Well, that might be, but it sure looks like a meerschaum to me. The Maltese Cross logo is on the stem of this pipe, so I’m going to assume that this is the pipe that goes with the box, plus the pipe is clearly unsmoked. I might be convinced that the briar was covered with something white, but the chamber is also the exact same white material. The end of the shank is also white. I can’t look into the shank because it’s lined with a metal, to accommodate the metal tenon. Neither of those would be used for briar, would they? But, if we take it that this is a meerschaum, it’s a more than decent looking Grp. 5 half-bent Billiard. The draw is not wide-open, but it’s open enough. The stem material is vulcanite. (Maybe the company also made briars and simply used that box to house this meerschaum…that makes some sense, I think.)
5.25” long, bowl 1.8” tall. Weight: 1.75 oz., 49 grams.
