No question here about the Maxima size, and the S2 rating is well earned on the basis of the excellent ring grain and straight grain evident in the blast. This is a piece of briar, a large piece of briar, that was blessed with good genes. While the stem is mark-free and the inner chamber rim is not worn, it does have a coat of carbon residue on part of that rim. The nomenclature is crisp. The stem logo is the red coral dot, discontinued after 1997 for a silver J.
