Romeo #223-10641 *SOLD 3/10/25*
First, let’s get the pronunciation right: instead of using the Romeo & Juliet way (and notice…two of the absolutely most famous love stories of all-time, Romeo & Juliet and Antony & Cleopatra were made famous by one guy, that guy being Willie Shakespeare…if he did nothing else, that would make him an immortal…as much as anyone can be immortal) try this: Row may’ oh. I feel that works better, although I am far from believing it has to be correct. It probably is, though as I’ve taken enough Italian that I should know by now. Then we have the problem of the pipe maker’s identity. I don’t think this is Mimmo’s work. It may be, but I think it comes from Fabrizio Romeo, in Calabria. What does Mimmo use as a stamping? Regardless, the rusticated design on this bowl looks as though it was inspired by Rice Chex or Wheat Chex. What I do like very much is the plateau rim with its ‘dragon’s teeth’ composition. The bowl is a good Grp. 5 size, but the pipe is very short, almost a nose-warmer. The stem is a brindle ebonite and the draw is wide-open. The condition is excellent.
4.75” long, bowl 1.7” tall. Weight: 1 3/8 oz., 38 grams.
