I think this is a Paolo by virtue of the shape, but it could conceivably one of Fritz’s (Paolo’s father) pipes or more likely, a collaboration. The nomenclature is definitely pre-grading, but that was a relatively recent development, when Paolo decided he had to get in step with the majority of pipe makers who could no longer count on the new pipe buyers to recognize what they were looking at and thus had to have it spelled out for them with stamped grades. This one simply says “Becker” and “Italy.” The rim shows carbon residue and a touch of wear on a thin rim. The tobacco chamber is in excellent condition. It’s the stem that diminishes the value of this pipe with a new acrylic replacement. The draw is still wide-open. Grp. 5 size, based on height of a chimney-like bowl.
