Castello Sea Rock #9424-9370
It would be hard to even make a guess as to a precise year this pipe was produced, but it was before the use of "Ks" to indicate size and maybe even before the use of the various "S" grades. It does, however, have a registration number, which I'll speculate puts it in the region of about 1953, give or take a couple of years.
1953 was the year, according to Pipedia, that Wally Frank was introduced to Carlo Scotti and started bringing his pipes into the U.S. with a diamond stem logo. It does have a shape # (31) stamped on it. If any of you pipe nerds out there can better pin point a year, I would be. grateful. Considering the early production year, it's a pleasure to see the pipe in such fine condition, although there is a small depression inside the chamber. However, to be certain that this was not an incipient burnout, I have smoked this pipe. It smoked fine, the tobacco burned down to the bottom of the bowl and there was no heat at all. The pipe is fine. Of course, should something happen, I stand behind the product. The nomenclature is all crisp and clear as is the rim and stem. It's a Grp. 5 size.
6" long, bowl 2" tall. Weight: 1.25 oz., 35 grams.
