Castello Old Antiquari G #327-10980 *SOLD 4/4/25*

$195.00

I don’t like the idea of a Sea Rock finish (hand carved rather than sandblasted) being called an Old Antiquari. Some people call it rusticated, but I believe both rough finishes fall under the ‘rusticated’ banner. Maybe I’m wrong and remembering incorrectly. This is done when the top 1/3 of the bowl, more or less, is darkened. Why should that change things, other than the extra work that goes into it…who asked them to do it?…and thus they want to recoup the cost by charging the extra that an Old Antiquari brings. To bring even a few more lire, Carlo Scotti (who’s name appears on this older pipe) calls it a G, for Giant size. It’s not. Yes, it’s large, but not that large. Grp. 6. On the other hand, the condition is excellent, maybe even near-new. The draw is wide-open and with a twist of the cleaner, no crimping necessary, it passes the test.
5.6” long, bowl 2” tall. Weight: 2.25 oz., 65 grams.
