Interesting nomenclature, or rather, absence of some standard nomenclature. For instance, this pipe has no size designation. Castello OAs almost always had indicators of size, either Ks or Gs.
This one unquestionably would qualify for at least one G, but there is nothing stamped on it. There is no shape number on it, either. It’s an early enough piece, with Carlo Scotti’s name on it. There does appear to be an “N” on it, although that is somewhat muddied in the stamping. If so, it would indicate the pipe was destined for Noli’s shop in the Milan Galleria across from the Duomo. Another shop also was assigned an N or an N 1. Besides being large, the pipe is in excellent condition. No wear, at all.
