Made for an Expo in Milan, this is #81 of the 120 carved for the event. Those numbers are stamped on one side of the shank. The silver band is engraved with stalks of wheat, as well as stating the city and year being commemorated. The finish is carved Sea Rock, but the unique shape of the pipe is supposed to emulate the look of an ear of wheat (“Spighe di grano”). I’m told the original pipe, 10 yrs. ago, sold new for $750. I suppose you could look it up. At least one of them must have sold for that price as this one has been smoked, but very lightly. It is in excellent condition with no marks on the rim or stem.
