The bowl and shank are in excellent condition, but the stem is an acrylic replacement. In that sense the stem is now pristine, but of course it reduces the appeal of an Upshall of this pedigree. Still, the bowl and straight grain warrant the “B” designation. One thing does bother me a little…the shape of the bowl includes two pinched sides on the bowl. I can see that where it is pinched, it is a little darker, making me wonder if the bowl gets hotter where it is thinner. But there is absolutely no charring inside the chamber,; the pictures make it look much darker than it actually is. The draw is wide-open.
