James Upshall P #225-10754

$265.00

Unsmoked and large, a Grp. 7, at least, with a chamber diameter easily taking my thumb while still maintaining thick walls. It has good cross grain, too. Besides the normal nomenclature it is also stamped with an “L1 85.” Does that mean it was made in 1985? Could be, I suppose. The Upshall company was started in 1978. The “L1” seems more like a Ser Jacopo designation, meaning Liscia (smooth) and the 1st level of that grade. I’m pretty sure it’s not that, but it must mean something.
6.5” long, bowl 2.3” tall. Weight: 1 7/8 oz., 52 grams.
