Comoy's Grand Slam #327-11014

$75.00

This pipe is a bit of an enigma. It’s old, that’s for sure. Although a repair band covers much of the nomenclature, you can see, for sure, three things: 1) it’s a Comoy’s, 2) it’s a Grand slam, and 3) it is a Patent Number piece. If you know your Grand Slams, you know that the older stems had a metal stinger; this stem has that specific style of stinger. But it does not have a “C.” Nor, to my experienced eyes, does it seem to be that old a stem. As for the wide repair band, there really is not a fracture that that runs down the shank…there is a something (how’s that for specificity?) that goes part of the way around the shank at the stem end, but it’s not a fracture. The band is probably more a preventative measure.
The place of origin does have both the London and the England.
5.3” long, bowl 1.5” tall. Weight: 1 1/8 oz., 30 grams.
