Charatan Executive #9424-9509

$90.00

This pipe is huge. It weighs 5 ounces, or two and a half times most good sized pipes. Charatan stamped "Extra Large" on the shank. No kidding. It's a good thing you told us or we would never have figured it out. I think it was photographed before I polished the stem, so that stem will look dull in the photos. Don't worry...that is easily remedied and it will arrive bright and shiny black. However, I do not see a "CP" on the stem, so it might, or might not, be a replacement. It probably is original because the nomenclature, while legible (and it does have the Lane "L") is buffed way down, so the delicate, white, "CP" was likely buffed off.
The draw is wide-open and the pipe passes the cleaner test. There is carbon on the very thick rim (7/10" or more) but, if there's any wear, it's hard to see and minimal at most. It looks round to me. What is going to be difficult is reaming the chamber, considering its diameter and the limitation of the size on the reamer. I'll do what I can. In any event, one has to be impressed that Charatan can come up with such a large piece of briar that is both clean enough to be made into a smooth pipe without fills and with enough straight grain to be elevated to the Exec. level.
6.5" long, bowl 2.85" tall. Weight: 5 oz., 142 grams.
