From the good old days of Charatan (yes, it has the “L” stamp on the bottom of the shank), with the “Made by Hand in City of London” stamped on the shank. That refers to the free hand manner in which the pipe was made. The Executive was one grade above the Distinction, which was the entry level into their Straight Grain grades. This is a Grp. 6 size in very good condition, with a crisp, clean rim and one tiny tooth mark, hardly an indent, on the bottom of the vulcanite stem. The “CP” logo on the stem is visible, but the white has been buffed out of it. The rest of the nomenclature is clear and readily distinguishable, if not vivid. Actually, it looks as though it were stamped this way…nothing of it appears to have been buffed down. Used.
