If you come to this spot with any regularity, you have read that spotting an old, original factory Charatan is easy to spot, whether it has the “L” on it or not. That remains the case. What about the reverse…is it always easy to spot a post City-made piece? About that I’m less confident. This pipe does not have an “L” on it; it is stamped “Extra Large” but there is no “In City of London.” (it’s not that large, at all). Suspiciously, though, the DC stem looks a bit different than that of the old pieces. Of course, that could be the result of buffing and thus a rounder step-down version than the old stems provide. Also, and this could also be the result of buffing, there is no visible “CP” on the stem. It is, after all, a Charatan Exec, with lots of flame grain. The condition is very good, with no bite marks on the ebonite stem and just some carbon residue on the rim. It passes the cleaner test. Grp. 6 size.
