This pipe has been handled a lot, likely because it was loved a lot. Thus, a lot of the nomenclature is buffed, or hand-rubbed, way down. You can read the block letter brand name, but not easily, and you can see the shape number as 1423, but again, not easily. Also on the top of the shank is stamped the last name of the owner of this pipe. Clearly, he had no intention of giving it up. In this instance, it’s good the stamping is buffed down. Also, the stem has tooth indentations on the top and bottom. Now the good news: the rim is in quite good shape, the chamber is in excellent condition and the draw is wide-open. In short, the quality of the smoke has not been effected by use.
