Between the mostly buffed way-down nomenclature and the thin steel tube someone used to replace the tenon, describing this pipe is a pain in the ass, but at least I do have it sussed out in terms of its year of production. It is definitively a 1955, as you can properly see the way the “Dunhill” sits directly and squarely over the “Shell Briar” and the “Made in” sits over the “England” and then the 5 after the ‘d’. Happily, there is no issue at all with the bowl, rim and chamber; they are clean and crisp. The stem does have bite marks, mostly quite shallow with one, on the bottom, being a bit deep. It is not in jeopardy of being bitten through unless one is determined to do that dirty deed.
