1950 Dunhill Shell #223-10450

$1,250.00

Just another unsmoked 1950 Shell in pristine condition. The pipe is Grp. 4, with the attendant Patent number. Are there a few of you reading this who remember the time when you walked into a true pipe shop, and, if you said that you were looking for a Billiard sandblast, the clerk (likely in suit and tie) would go to the drawers of pipes, pull out the one with Billiards set it on the counter for you to look at, setting each pipe you were interested in on perhaps a felt mat? This pipe is from that era. I told you that this pipe comes from David Field’s collection. Here’s what he just had to say about it’s unsold status: “I’m surprised the 1950 Dunhill Shell is still there at that price. I would have priced it higher….A longtime member of the Philadelphia pipe club wanted to collect a Dunhill from every year from his birth to present. And he did so… except for the year 1950. This man searched for years far and wide, contacting other clubs, going to shows, and- nothing. So, I figure, this thing has to be extra-rare, no?” So, inspired by that, from one of the first Dunhill experts in the collecting arena, I’m going to raise the price by just $100.
5.35” long, bowl 1.8” tall. Weight: 1 oz., 28 grams.
