This is an older Stanwell, as reflected by the Regis. # which is right under the brand name on the top of the shank. It’s a Grp 5 size in excellent condition. There are two other factors in this pipe’s favor: it is stamped “Hand Made,” which is not the case with most Stanwell’s, which are mostly machine turned. I was at their Danish factory and saw the operation. Of course, a lot of the finishing was done by hand. The other factor is the ‘Selected Briar’ aspect, which is confirmed by the absence of fills and cross grain and Bird’s Eye. The “S” logo, with crown on top, is all there and the draw is wide-open. The stem material is vulcanite and there are no teeth marks at all on that old, rounded button area. In short, this pipe was barely used.
