In looking up this unfamiliar name on Pipedia, I saw a photo in which Ib Loran is standing next to a very young Lars Ivarsson, Jørn Micke, and Anne Julie, each holding a pipe creation of their own. Loran was the oldest of that group, by far, and was dressed in a suit and tie, while the others are casually clad. He was the oldest and started making pipes in 1955, or thereabouts, and sold his pipes through the Pipe-Dan store in Copenhagen as well as through other outlets. The pipe here, although a simple, classic shape, and therefore timeless in its way, still doesn’t look old, but looks and feels rather contemporary. If anything gives away its age, it is the button on the stem. That always, or almost always, provides a solid clue as to a pipe’s age. The condition of this pipe is near-new, the size is Grp. 6 and the stem is vulcanite, providing an open draw. “Pipe Dan” is included in the nomenclature, as is “Copenhagen.” Used.
